Which drone can do what?
Airclip processes photos from any common camera drone. For automated flight patterns such as Point of Interest the model matters - small entry-level drones cannot always do it.
Airclip Cloud works with the photos, not with the drone. Whether the images come from a DJI Mini or a Matrice 4E makes no difference to the processing. The differences are in the flying: which flight patterns the drone flies on its own, whether it knows its position to within a few centimetres via RTK, and which drone licence you need for it.
Accuracy depends less on price than many people think. Lengths and areas on a roof are accurate to a few centimetres even with a Mini or Air. Only if you need around 1 cm or work georeferenced is there no way around an Enterprise drone. More on this under Accuracy.
DJI Fly or DJI Pilot 2
The most important dividing line in the table runs between two apps. You fly the Mini, Air and Mavic with DJI Fly, the Enterprise drones with DJI Pilot 2. Both can circle a house. Anything that plans a route across an area or corrects the position via RTK exists only in Pilot 2.
Consumer drones
Mini, Air and Mavic. Light, affordable, quickly in the air. For a house or a roof that is all you need: lengths and areas are accurate to a few centimetres.
- Point of Interest from the Mini 3 Pro
- No RTK, no area route
- Licence depending on class: none up to A2
Enterprise drones
Mavic 3 Enterprise, Matrice 4, 350 RTK and 400. They plan routes across whole sites, take oblique and vertical photos in one flight with Smart Oblique, and know their position to 2 to 4 cm with RTK. On the Mavic 3 Enterprise, RTK is a retrofit module.
- Area route, with and without oblique images
- RTK built in or available as a retrofit
- Smart 3D Capture: Matrice 4E, 4D, 400 with P1

What the columns mean
- Class
- The C class is on the drone’s label and decides which licence you need: C0 none, C1 the A1/A3, C2 in built-up areas the A2. Details in the article on drone law.
- Point of Interest
- The drone circles an object automatically and takes photos as it goes. The pattern for a single house or roof. About the flight pattern
- Area route
- The drone flies a grid across an area, vertically or with oblique images. It is planned in DJI Pilot 2, so only Enterprise drones can do it. About the flight pattern
- Smart 3D Capture
- After a short exploratory flight the app plans a route 3 to 5 m away from the building. The most accurate pattern for a single building. About the flight pattern
- RTK
- Correction data makes the drone’s position accurate to 2 to 4 cm instead of 1 to 3 m. You need it when the model has to sit in the right place in real-world coordinates. “Optional” means: available as a retrofit module. Setting up RTK
